Alabama Smog Check

Here are some pointers to help you pass your Smog Check. We recommend that you follow each step as closely as possible to save you money in the long run. Failing a test doesn't mean you get your money back after the test.

AL Smog Check

  1. Tires - They should be in good shape and have air in them.
  2. Engine Lights - You don't want these on. If these are on go to a mechanic to have it fixed.
  3. Fluids - You need them and so does you vehicle. If you find a puddle of fluids under your car you should take it to the mechanic.
  4. Tire Sizes - The equipment that smog check stations use is based on the standard tire size, not your monster truck tires or racing tires.
  5. Filters - Make sure that you've had your oil fitler and air filter replaced recently.
  6. Gas Cap - If it doesn't fit then get the one that will!
  7. Gas Type - Don't get fancy and buy the expensive stuff just for the test. Use the kind that your owners manual saws you should be using. If that menas that you are upgrading (we know that sometimes you may use cheaper gas) if the manual tells you to.
  8. Clean your Car - Not a clean shiny car, a car that has your weekend warrior gear out of it. Any excess weight will not help in the testing.
  9. Drive Temperature - Try to get at least 15 minutes of driving in before you drop your car off for the test. It helps to have a car that is warmed up to perform best for the test.
