WV Car Loan

Things to know when shopping for a Car Loan:

Annual Percentage Rate (APR)
the interest rate for a whole year (annualized), rather than just a monthly fee/rate on a Car Loan. It is really there to let you gauge which loan is going to let you pay less over the term of the loan.

Down payment
It is the amount of money that you put down towards the purchase of a new or used vehicle at the time of purchase and origination of the loan. It does not include credit for a trade in or possible rebates and incentives.

Interest Rate
It is closely related to the APR, kind of like a lost brother. The interest is the percentage of money that the lender receives on the interest paid on the loan. It is really for lenders to know how much they are going to make by lending you money.

Loan Term
It is the length of the car loan. You'll hear this thrown around a lot on car dealer commercials. They offer 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, and 72. Normally, the longer the term of the loan the more money you'll pay out on the loan. Aim to get the lowest APR because what that means is you pay less over the term of the loan.

Principal
It is the amount of the car loan with no interest factored in. It is the amount you are will paying interest on over the term of the loan. To figure this out:

  1. Take the final sale price then add all the extra fees like taxes, titling obligations, trade inequity, etc.
  2. Subtract the down payment
  3. Subtract your trade in
  4. Subtract rebates or incentives

There it is, the principal.
